Haslam: Browns Need To Get A Quarterback

Jan 23, 2015 1:52 PM

Jimmy Haslam hasn't ruled out starting Johnny Manziel at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in 2015, but he also said "every option is on the table."

The Browns also started Brian Hoyer and Connor Shaw at quarterback this season.

"We've got to get a quarterback and got to get it fixed," Haslam said Thursday night, via the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram. "What I would say to our fans is, we're going to continue to work really hard to find that quarterback who can make us a championship team."

The Browns used a first round pick on Manziel last year.

"Johnny has to show on and off the field he can be a professional," Haslam said. "He knows that. Everybody in the organization has told him that. It'll be up to Flip and (coach Mike Pettine) to decide whether he can be the kind of quarterback we need him to be. He knows what we expect of him on and off the field, and it's up to him to prove he can do that."

Peyton Manning Intends To Return In 2015

Jan 22, 2015 10:17 AM

Peyton Manning plans on continuing his NFL playing career in 2015.

According to three trustworthy sources, Manning wants to return to the Broncos, but won't and can't make a final decision until he takes an annual physical examination mandated by his contract.

The test results weren't known until March last season.

The Broncos have asked Manning to inform them of his plans by March 9, which is the day before teams must exercise their rights on veteran players under contract.

Manning is due $19 million next season.

Cowboys Admit Keeping Both Bryant, Murray Will Be Challenging

Jan 16, 2015 7:17 PM

The Dallas Cowboys would like to sign both Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray to long-term deals, but Jerry Jones acknowledged it will be difficult.

"It's going to be a challenge," Jones said. "Is it financially reasonable? No. Is it possible? Yes.

"But if you just looked at it from dollars and cents, it probably doesn't look reasonable. You have to figure out how you get there, but at the end of the day you realize it's going to be costly to have both of those players."

Bryant appears to be the higher priority.

If the Cowboys can't reach a long-term agreement with Bryant, Jones has said they will use the franchise tag on him, which will pay the receiver about $12.5 million in 2015.

Jones said he's not interested in restructuring a contract like quarterback Tony Romo's deal, which will count nearly $27 million for a luxury item.

Lions Open To Using Tag On Ndamukong Suh

Jan 8, 2015 7:05 PM

Martin Mayhew said the Detroit Lions are open to all options with defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, including potentially using the franchise or transition tags on the free agent-to-be.

"He certainly is a big priority for us and he's an important part of our football team the past five years and I think the world of him," Mayhew said.

Mayhew said he spoke with Suh on Monday and he is "looking forward to working with him" to try and get a deal done. Mayhew said the team would prefer to sign a long-term deal with Suh, who would be one of the most sought-after free agents in 2015 if he reaches March without a deal.
